Tesco, the UK's most prolific supermarket, is expanding its reach with 11 new stores across the country. The announcement comes as a surprise, given that Tesco already boasts nearly 3,000 locations across the UK. But that's not all - the supermarket has also acquired five old Amazon Fresh stores in London, which will be reopened as Tesco Express locations before the summer. The new Tesco Express locations will be in Kensington High Street, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East, and Wembley. In addition to the new Tesco Express stores, two new large Tesco stores will be opening in Scotland, though it's not clear whether they will be Tesco Extras or Tesco Superstores. The exact launch dates for these new stores have not yet been confirmed. Tesco's expansion plans come a week after Which? reported that Tesco is the UK's cheapest supermarket for a 'big shop', as long as you take advantage of the Clubcard discount. For a normal weekly shop, however, Tesco is still trumped by Aldi and Lidl. The new Tesco locations join a wave of new supermarket openings across the UK, including 18 new and improved Co-op supermarkets and 19 new Lidl supermarkets. So, it seems that the UK's supermarket landscape is changing rapidly. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments!
