Instead of a traditional rocket launch, a modified aircraft, the Pegasus XL, carried the rocket to an altitude of 40,000 feet (12,200 meters), where it was released to ignite and propel Link into space. This unique approach was necessary due to Swift's position in orbit.

Swift's design lacks the features necessary for a spacecraft to capture it, and its insulation, crucial for temperature regulation, must be carefully inspected. NASA and Katalyst engineers will employ cameras and sensors to locate Swift, and then Link's robotic arms will grasp it securely.
The subsequent phase involves using Link's thrusters to propel both satellites higher into space. This process will take several months, but the reward is a potential extension of Swift's operational life by another decade or more.
