Two Major League Baseball (MLB) stars, Kim Ha-seong and Song Sung-mun, will unfortunately be sitting out the upcoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) due to injuries. This news has left many fans feeling disappointed, especially as these players were expected to be key contributors for Team Korea.
Kim, the Atlanta Braves' shortstop, recently underwent surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right middle finger after a slip on ice in Korea. He's expected to be out for a significant period, with the Braves announcing a recovery time of four to five months. Song, who signed with the San Diego Padres in December, suffered an oblique injury during batting practice, and sources indicate he'll be sidelined for up to four weeks.
Despite the potential for recovery before the WBC, both players have decided to focus on their respective MLB teams during spring training.
"It's a tough decision, but we have to prioritize our health and long-term careers," said Kim. "The WBC is a prestigious tournament, but so is the MLB. We want to be at our best for our teams and fans."
And here's where it gets controversial: some fans and analysts are questioning whether these players are making the right call. With the WBC being a prestigious international event, many argue that representing one's country should take precedence.
