DBM's Plan to Implement Pay Hike for Military and Uniformed Personnel (2026)

A Pay Raise for Our Heroes: A Bold Move by President Marcos Jr.

In a recent development, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has signaled its commitment to implementing a significant pay hike for military and uniformed personnel (MUPs), a decision that has sparked both excitement and controversy.

Acting Secretary Rolando Toledo praised President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s initiative, stating, "We applaud the President's decision to boost the salaries and subsistence allowances of our dedicated MUPs, who selflessly protect our nation."

But here's where it gets interesting: the measure, outlined in Executive Order (EO) No. 107, faces budgetary concerns. Despite this, Toledo assured that the DBM will work tirelessly to ensure the immediate implementation of the order, scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.

EO 107 details a three-tranche increase in base pay for all MUPs, with the first tranche beginning on January 1, 2026, followed by the second on January 1, 2027, and the final tranche on January 1, 2028. The order also increases the daily subsistence allowance for all MUPs to PHP 350, a substantial jump from the current PHP 150.

This adjustment will benefit members of various agencies, including the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard, among others. The order further directs the formation of an Inter-Agency Technical Working Group (IATWG) to review the MUP Pension System comprehensively.

The DBM is expected to issue guidelines for implementing EO 107 within 90 days of its effectivity. This move by President Marcos Jr. is a bold step towards recognizing and supporting the invaluable contributions of our MUPs. However, the question remains: With budgetary constraints, how will this impact other sectors and services? Share your thoughts and insights in the comments below!
