Leogang's Epic Bikepark Turns 25:
In 2026, the EPIC Bikepark Leogang, nestled in the stunning Saalfelden Leogang region, will commemorate its 25th anniversary, marking a significant moment in Austria's biking history. This park, the nation's very first, has evolved into a global magnet for mountain bikers, drawing enthusiasts from every corner of the world.
But here's where it gets exciting: Leogang has repeatedly hosted the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series and the prestigious UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2012, 2020, and the upcoming 2028 edition. These events have solidified its status as the heart of the international mountain biking community.
A Journey Back to 2001
When the park opened its gates in 2001, the Downhill World Championship title was claimed by Nicolas Vouilloz in Vail/Beaver Creek, with Steve Peat and Greg Minnaar following. Meanwhile, Anne Caroline Chausson dominated the women's race. Little did they know that Leogang's own legend, Aaron Gwin, was just 14 years old, and the local hero Vali Hƶll was about to enter the world.
The story of Leogang's inception is fascinating. It began with a mere four lines and a healthy dose of skepticism. The vision, inspired by MTS and Martin Samek's thesis, gradually materialized. After a visit to Bikepark Geisskopf in Germany, the project gained momentum. The initial investment was shared between the Leogang cable car company and local silent partners, a true community effort.
'The journey wasn't without challenges. We faced skepticism, obstacles, and the task of attracting a new audience. But our unwavering belief and teamwork laid the foundation for the park's success.' ā Kornel Grundner, CEO LeogangerBergbahnen
From Struggles to Success
The park's early years were economically demanding, but through strategic communication and exceptional event collaborations with Rasoulution, it gained global recognition. The park has hosted 14 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup events and two World Championships, with more to come!
Growth, Events, and World-Class Riding
Since its inception, the park has expanded to 21 lines and trails, or 30 including the Riders Playground. Annual bike traffic has skyrocketed from 16,700 uplift rides in 2001 to an impressive 270,000 rides per bike summer today. Saalfelden Leogang has become synonymous with top-tier events, including the UCI World Cups and Championships.
The legendary 26TRIX and White Style events have showcased the world's best slopestyle riders, leaving fans in awe. These events have been pivotal in launching the careers of renowned riders like Andreu Lacondeguy and Brandon Semenuk.
2026: A Year of Celebrations and Community
While details are still under wraps, the EPIC Bikepark Leogang community can anticipate a grand anniversary weekend from July 24-26, 2026. The WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series will return, and the world's top riders will compete in various disciplines. The renowned bike festival Saalfelden Leogang will also make a comeback in October.
The park's diverse trails cater to all skill levels, fostering a sense of community. The Ladies Shred Events in 2026 emphasize female empowerment in the sport, offering camps and workshops for skill development and camaraderie.
'The 25th anniversary reaffirms our position as a leading mountain biking hub in Europe. Our meticulously maintained trails, innovative designs, and inclusive infrastructure cater to both pros and beginners.' ā Marco Pointner, CEO Saalfelden Leogang Touristik
As Leogang celebrates its quarter-century milestone, it continues to inspire and unite mountain bikers worldwide. The park's journey from a bold vision to an international flagship is a testament to the power of passion, innovation, and community.
